Acupuncture for Pain Conditions: How does it work? What to expect? How many treatments are usually needed?

BLOGPOST_AcupuncturePain11022020.jpgThe most common condition for which individuals seek out acupuncture is to help with pain, whether acute or chronic pain. You can expect to experience a decrease in the pain after the first treatment. Because acupuncture has a cumulative effect, it usually takes 4-5 treatments to feel that pain is starting to progressively decrease, although it depends on the root cause of the pain and is determined by a case-by-case basis. When a problem is more severe and prolonged, alleviating the pain can take longer.

On average it takes 10-12 sessions, at a frequency of no less than twice a week and in some cases three times per week, to see results. In chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and after completing a course of sessions, I highly recommend coming back for maintenance treatments every 3-4 weeks. I always tell my patients that every time they leave my office, they should feel some improvement. If you do not improve after 4-5 sessions, other options should be considered. Different types of acupuncture stimulation needles (e.g., manual and electro) can be used. I often combine acupuncture with cold laser therapy to enhance the effect and accelerate the process.

Most common pain conditions treated:

  1. Neck pain
  2. Back pain
  3. Joints pain-Osteoarthritis
  4. Rheumatoid arthritis
  5. Fibromyalgia
  6. Headaches any type (migraine, cluster, stress related)
  7. Menstrual cramps
  8. Any musculoskeletal pain
  9. Pain related to Musculo-skeletal trauma.
  10. Psychosomatic pain (related to emotional trauma)

At this challenging time now as never, people need help with healing emotional trauma, fears, anxiety, and chronic pain. I am here for you to help overcome your health problems.
Yours, Dr.Tatyana
